Flying Pony Studios site rebuild - DONE!

Welcome to the new Flying Pony Studios website!

I rebuild my website every few years.

It's necessary as both the times, and my focus, changes periodically.

The new build is teaching-focused with pages for classes, an event calendar, and a page to promote my art coaching business. Of course, there's also a gallery of my artwork and a place to see some current projects. About the latter...there'll be more added to the current projects page sometime soon. I have a few new projects I'm really excited to share with you.

I'll get there.

And there will be a e-commerce store here, too. In time.

For now though...I hope you like the new Flying Pony Studios website.

Drop me a line with comments or if you find any *shiver* typos.

Daily Report: Starting the next illustration today and…

My new drawing tool.

Martin Universal Design 23" x 31"
Pro-Draft Drawing Board
Tired of using a combination of T-squares and triangles, I decided to spring for a parallel straightedge drawing board the last time I was at the art supply store. True, it was a bit of an expensive impulse buy…but it’s going to be a tremendous help for the book illustrations. Why? Because good drafting counts!

My new drawing board in action
I started using it today as I began the next book illustration. Here it is in action. What a dream to be able to get my lines straight so easily! *phew* I am totally delighted with it. The right tool for the right job certainly makes everything easier…there’s no doubt about that.
Rough pencil drawing of the next book illustration
Finally, here’s my current drawing in progress. It’s still a pretty rough pencil drawing at this stage, but it’s coming along. One of the extra fun parts of this drawing will be the decorated border under the larger image which will show some of the action taking place elsewhere in the chapter at the same time as bigger picture. Fun!

Now taking...credit cards!

It's a big day here at Flying Pony Studios. As of today, I am able to take credit card payments  for product and services! I felt that being able to take more forms of payments would make it easier and more convenient for my clients purchasing everything from greeting cards to illustration services.

Flying Pony Studios now accepts cash, personal checks, PayPal, MasterCard, Visa, American Express, and Discover.

As I begin my second coloring book, I can't help but think that the timing of the all is perfect. :-)

Unpacking at the new house

Moving and the subsequent unpacking of my studio has put a major crimp in my art schedule. The 2009 holidays were full of unexpected family emergencies and a move to a new (and bigger house.) As of today I have unpacked my studio and can start getting back on track. What a relief! Here is a picture of the new studio, alas without any decorations yet, but up and working. Yeah! The pieces you see in various stages of development are part of what I’m calling, “The Emma Project.” As a warm-up I’ve been doing several pieces of a cat named Emma, in various mediums. Emma belongs to my dear friend Max. More on the Emma project in the coming days…
